I have a confession to make. I am not a fan of themed or primary color coded baby clothes. I want my son to wear mini-monsieur clothes and not be the official mascot of Disney or Sesame Street (no offense, it just doesn’t float my boat)

So ya, I couldn’t resist taking a trip to the store and purchase a few items you see here. We got some shoes, shirts, pants, and even onesies. I can’t wait for it to get a little colder so that I can actually dress him up in them

Shopping for baby shoes can be fun. Even if they don’t wear them long. So when I saw these handmade shoes by JoyFolie I had to share. I especially love the baby girl shoes. The ruffles, the prints. Too cute. Why can’t boys wear ruffles and flowers. Why?!?!

Inspiration :

It all started off with the already painted wall. Purple-ish gray hue with white wainscoting. We had painted this room when we moved in our house taking into account this would “one day” be the room of baby. I wanted something that was neutral so we could either go boy or girl with pops of color. I love gray so it was only appropriate to incorporate that in major elements in the room.

I chose tone on tone gray houndstooth fabric for the modern glider that would fit perfectly in the corner of the room. A gray shag rug which would be placed under the dark wood crib would accent the gray in the glider. I was getting custom bedding made and because it would be handmade, I wanted to choose colors that were gender neutral so that I can use this amazing bedding for baby #2 if we happen to have one I wanted modern prints; stripes and dots in bright colors ; blues, yellows and green.

Theme? Well you can say that I went pinwheel crazy. I guess that’s the theme. Modern Bright Pinwheel gender neutral nursery. Phew… that is a long title, but seems to be right on the dot. I loved pinwheels as a child and realized it was something that wasn’t being used much in nurseries (well anyway I haven’t seen any) … so I went all out. Making this colorful paper toys was a great inexpensive DIY project and I scattered them all around the room. I made a wall of custom art (all designed by me) framed in white frames (so that they would pop on the gray wall) and added a couple of pinwheels to the layout.

I also added some pinwheels in the pom clusters I also DIY-ed. I didn’t want to have a mobile in the room so I figured having a cluster would be a more modern way to go about it. I included 2 white paper lanterns I took home from my baby shower as well as green and blue paper lanterns I found at the party store. They fit perfectly with the greens and blues in the bedding. Lastly, I wanted to incorporate typography somehow, so I got custom letters made out of bamboo and hung them from the cluster.

I am really happy with the outcome of the room, I just hope baby boy will too.

So I opened up my design programs, and played around with pictures of fabrics Holly sent me. At first I wanted an all striped quilt, but soon gave up that idea since we had a striped fabric in the lot. So I tried various designs, some conventional others not.

After I showed the hubs the classic square quilt, I kinda admitted to myself that… um… I wasn’t a fan of the conventional design. I wanted something a little more unique, so presented the next design in hopes he liked that a little more. (for my sake )

When I showed him these two examples, he admitted he liked the long striped version (woo hoo) , but not so much the purple fabric or the randomness. So I went back to the drawing board, hoping this time around he would like what I came up with. I figured that if he was involved more with the overall choices in fabric and design, he’d be less likely to say “WTH is that??? I don’t want our boy to be gay”  Not that I have a problem with having a gay child, but I wouldn’t do it on purpose to add purple and pink in the lot

I thought maybe something a little simpler was more us, so I bascially designed the quilt as if the striped fabric was visually overlapping the other colors… and I actually liked that idea a whole lot. Did baby daddy like it? YES!!!! But, yup there was a but… he wanted to modify the layout of the colors. Since I hadn’t done the design to scale, we realized that the final size allowed us to add an extra row of color.

So this is what I sent Holly… the final quilt design. There was no turning back now. Since the fabric was purchased. But I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed.

I know you don’t really see the colors of the fabrics chosen well… especially since that top blue color is less vibrant and the beige-y color at the bottom is actually a pretty buttery color. Holly was sweet to send over some fabric samples so that I can go ahead and decorate baby’s nursery while impatiently waiting for the bedding to arrive.

Oh, did I mention that I am having custom pillows, crib skirt and bumper made by Holly too??? The whole thing will look so amazing, I can’t wait to show you more.

I’ve been online shopping to get an idea of what I like and dislike… but unfortunately I can’t purchase online since, well… 95% of the things I try on don’t fit. Going to the store and trying on models, made me realized that it’s super hard to know what size you are. I tried on Large in all the models, and some where super tight or too big. How the heck are you suppose to buy something when you don’t even know your size? Frustrating.

No one pieces, or bikinis that barely cover my nipples, and it has to have a wide bottom to cover my ass that my grandmother so generously handed me down  Any suggestions of some great maternity swimwear?
