Stunning Drop Caps

category: Typographie

Typography is something that fascinates me and when I found the work of Jessica Hische I knew I had to share. (but I’m sure you’ve seen her work before) In design school I’ve always wanted to create my own typography, but soon realized that I wasn’t made for that. I guess you accept it and move on… but there are people like Jessica who are beyond talented and to them…. its easy. Hurray for that! Because its amazing. Art in its best form.

Now, notice that pretty drop cap in the beginning of the post? Well its all part of the  The Daily Drop Cap. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it before but it’s an ongoing project by typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische herself. Each day, a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap will be posted on this site and can be used for your enjoyment and for beautify your blog posts.

It’s really easy to use, once you find the drop cap of your choice, simply click on it and all the coding will be available to you so you may insert it in your post (html editor mode), delete the first letter of your post and click preview. Voila! A pretty letter to start your post.

Pages and pages of pretty drop caps will be found on her site. But it’s worth looking through every page. Each letter has its unique style. From various colors and shapes to being era focused… these letters are beautiful and have so many intricate details.

Check out her website for more typographic goodies. She even has an online shop for you fans ;) I’m seriously considering buying myself a Drop Cap to hang on my wall in my office… hmmm

So what are you waiting for, go check out The Daily Drop Cap for daily inspiration.
