Organizing ma vie : Les Finances Pt 3
Organizing ma vie : Les Finances Pt 1
Organizing ma vie : Les Finances Pt 2
Being in my debt-free mode, I knew I had to get rid of debt quick if I wanted to be officially debt free by my 30th birthday. That meant re-organizing everything. The way I look at things, the way I spend my money the way I budget. Every single detail. One thing when you want to attack debt full force is to be willing to make sacrifices for a determined period of time. Stuff is just stuff and getting rid of it now (to pay off debt) makes sense. Sure you might not WANT to sell it. But once you are debt free then you can start buying all your stuff over again (CASH)! now, that’s a good thing to work towards.
You can’t assume that you are paying the best price out there if you never really looked into it. What I mean, not because you’ve been with the same insurance company or cable company you have the best deal. Shop around get better prices and negotiate with your current company so that they don’t lose you as a client. Yes it’s annoying, yes it can be time consuming, but when it comes down to it, it’s your money. Don’t throw it out the windows. For example, thanks to the help of my husband and his negotiating we are now saving over 175$ / month. Crazy Right? But it’s true.
For our monthy bills this is what I did (after hours of talking on the phone)
Cell phone : savings of 23$ a month
Cable / Internet / House Phone : savings of 50$ a month
Insurance (home & personal) : savings of 85$ a month
Personal Bank (both our accounts) : (Switched Bank ) savings of 30$ a month
For a grand total of : 188$ a month! and that’s without counting all the couponing I am doing.
I just renewed our home and car insurance so I could of saved more money on that portion if I took the time to shop around… so I will next time around. Trick is, even if you are happy with your current supplier, still look around because its proven you always get the best price when you are a new customer. Majority of the time your current company will match the price. Give a price maybe 10% cheaper and you are saving even more!
In july we had our first ever yard sale. It was a great success and we sold 800$ in 1 day. How awesome is that! Now, we are listing the bigger pieces ; camera, collectibles, wedding dress, fooseball table. All in the hopes to get good cash for it. As you can see, I have lost all sense of attachment with my shit. (yes, I just called my stuff shit) because it’s not what makes me happy. Being debt-free will. So for now, I’m ready to sell everything to get to that point and the starting over will be even more rewarding.
I will talk about banks. About fees. About all the money, YOUR money you are losing because they are sharks and don’t care about you. There, I said it. You have no idea of the possibilities, about the money you can be making on your money. So stay tuned.

August 23, 2011 at 18:25 (634 days ago)I’ve often thought about selling my wedding dress, but I still feel so attached to it. I’d rather give it away, to someone I know who needs it, than sell it to a stranger.. weird huh?
