Mavi’s Toddler Room : Inspiration

Before we can even start thinking about the nursery, we I need to think about what we would like to do for Mavrick’s toddler room. Because our son is moving in our bedroom (and us downstairs) there is way too much space for a little 2 year old toddler, so we’ve decided to divide it half bedroom half playroom. We don’t have a lot of space in the upstairs living room and with soon 2 kids, I want “my” space to be clutter free of toys.

We already have his bed, a vintage dresser we refurbished, bedding, a carpet and our most recent purchase a expedit bookcase which we will use to divide the room and play area. Other than that… I still have to decide on colors, placement and what I would like to have in both spaces.

We have a combination of wood / white furniture and grey bedding so clearly that’s a start. I was thinking maybe some blues added but at the same time it seems so predictable. I don’t want it to be a theme because I would like the room to grow with Mavrick, so a neutral wall color might be a better option.  I like idea of mixing different things, vintage elements like maps, to more modern pieces. I think that’s what makes a room unique and have it’s own character.

One thing I do know is that in Mavrick’s room space, I want to make a reading area. Why not in the playroom? Because to me a playroom isn’t necessarily a peaceful area and I also want both kids to have their own reading area in their room. I’m trying to avoid any fights ahead of time.

I like the idea of a carpet and lots of pillows to make the space cocoonish, and a nice display area for the books.

For the play area, because it will be for both Mavrick and Baby Girl, I want it to accomodate both. So I was thinking of having a music area, a kitchen area, a car/truck area all with their respective “storage” space. Plus, we will have some storage in the bookcase we purchased. We will line with a curtain (as backing to the cubbies) but making a wall when you are on the room side. We want to avoid Mavrick grabbing toys when bed means sleep time. Only books will be allowed in his “room”.

Any other tips, or great finds on the web that might help us make this vision a reality? Have you ever seen a room / playroom before?
