If you’ve seen my new twitter avatar… I have to admit that there’s much more to that image and I thought I would feature the artist whos behind that awesome piece of art – Stella of Frances Loves You

When it was our 1 year wedding anniversary, I wanted to offer Marc something different. Well part of the gift was an awesome custom illustration from Frances Loves You. Stella is beyond talented and I was soooo happy to work with her to get on paper what I had envisioned.

I thought that explaining the process might allow you to understand how she works… and plus, its really neat to see the evolution of the drawing. Makes you appreciate her talent even more…

1- I emailed Stella to tell her what I wanted for my illustration. I knew I wanted some sort of Clark Kent and Lois Lane drawing, because Marc is such a fan of Superman. I told her I wanted to look like a Vintage Lois, and big lashes was a must (I’m obessed with big lashes) I sent her a couple of pictures of us, so that she would know the right proportions. and bam, she emailed me a rough hand drawing.

2- I loved it… but there were a few things I wanted to change. She almost did it on the spot. Like I swear that pencil and eraser is glued to her hand. Second round of the rough hand drawing had a little more detail.

3- Once the hand drawing is appoved, she then scans the image and starts a rough version of the illustration. Its really neat to see the image come together and even though it was a rough illustration (she keeps specifying) its really really awesome and I couldn’t wait to see the final.

4- Last step was getting the colors right, from the hair, skin and eyes. Since its a cartoon version of us well it had to somewhat look like us ;) Well… the final, with the shading, outline and all, was better than what I had envisioned. Stella is sooooo talented. Its boggles my mind. I mean, I’m an artist and that talent is beyond ridicuously awesome.
