As you probably know (if you follow me on twitter and facebook) I recently started designing again. Though I love my son and spending time with him, I was missing working on fun projects and decided to start designing again, for my sanity.
So my first project since my mini-maternity leave was redesigning Erin Ax Events blog. Erin had contacted me a while back but because of baby and getting used to the whole routine, it took a little longer to get back to her. Luckily, she was still interested and I am glad to say, I finished her blog design yesterday.
If you would like me to design your logo, stationery, invitation, blog, website (or any other project for that matter) Fill out my quote form and I’ll get back to you. As for those still waiting on my blogger template shop… I am working on it. Promise! I hope to launch real soon.
You gave me away. You took a deep breath and held my hand as I tried hard not to cry.
“I want my speech to be perfect” he had told me 2 years ago (tomorrow) “Perfect because you deserve no less” I started tearing up, who wouldn’t after those heartfelt words.
“Dear Kelly,
I look at you today and with my father heart, I will summarize the movie of your life:
From the day you were born I have been touched…
Touched by the memory of the first time I held you in my arms.
Touched by looking at your grow along the years and I am so proud of the woman you’ve become.
Touched when you took my arm this afternoon and we walked down the aisle together.
And today my dear Kelly, the next scene of your movie arrive, the one about your union, your couple life.
You stand beside an exceptional man that I cherish, appreciate and love very much.
I wish you both lots of love, happiness and in hopes that I will be moved by becoming a grand-father one day.”
I will remember that day forever and ever. It is one of my favorite memories of my daddy and me. Happy Fathers day Daddy!!! You are my hero, my friend and my life. I have been blessed to have you in my life in such important moments… and soon, your wish will come true. You will be a grand-father one day… one day being in less than 3 weeks away
I’m a scatter brain, and I need to list things to make sure I get them done on time. (even more so ever since I got pregnant) But I have to admit I usually fall behind on my tentative schedule…What? it’s always good to be ambitious… right? Well I recently came across TeuxDeux a simple, designy, browser-based to-do app. Heres a quick intro video.
They are apparently working on an iPhone app (how sweet is that). So “What deux yeux have teux deux teuxday?”
This weekend was my birthday. My last birthday before I am set aside and baby takes over. What?! I am being realistic. Finished the gifts and the attention… its all going to be about baby from now on, actually its already like that.
So this weekend I decided to spoil myself. It was a beautiful weekend, I treated myself to a pedicure and some shopping at the gazillion yard sales. Well… the vintage Gods were on my side this weekend, because I found an oh so perfect item to go in my office. I would like to present you my new love : Smith – Corona
I’ve always been a fan of vintage items, but this blue typewritter was perfect for my office. A beautiful piece perfect for decor. But wait, that’s not the best part. I got it for 7$$$ Yup, you read right, the best 7$ I’ve spent in my entire life!!! Now if only I can get my act together and finish my office space. hmmm
Ever since I launched my blog/site I’ve had issues with WordPress. Whether it was unknown errors, updates crashing or my dashboard not showing up… I knew something was up, and deep down inside I knew it wasn’t WordPress’ fault. I contacted my hosting company (who I will name but not link too – cough cough 1and1 ) and they had no idea what I was talking about when I was mentioning WordPress or Dashboard. um… HELLO!?! AREN’T YOU A HOSTING COMPANY???? Egh… I mean, I’ve contacted them at least 4 times and every conversation was worse than the one before.
After months of debating (because I did pay for my year’s hosting and like everyone else, I hate throwing money out the windows) I finally decided to do the switch. I looked at various companies and decided to go with JustHost. My godfather (aka a programmer) uses JustHost and said he’s has no complaints… I admit I trusted him more than the online reviews, so I took his word for it. Well let me tell you he was right. They have an online 24/7 support chat if you have any questions, they aren’t expensive, and the best part…. EVERYTHING IN MY WORDPRESS SITE BLOG WORKS!!!!!!!!! Now that’s a hosting company people! Two thumbs up.
So I apologize for the lack of posts and the downtime. Blogging is so much more enjoyable when things work properly. So thank you JustHost, you made my day!!!!
I have waited YEARS for this moment, and now it is so close I can smell it. I actually ordered myself a 15″ MacBook Pro and pimped it up with a little more processor love and opted for the 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I should be receiving this baby shortly… and I’m beyond excited about it. Like I’ve said, I wait 6 years for this moment… 6 years.
Dear 1st generation iMac G5,
How can I express this bitter feeling.
We had great times together, but it’s time for me to move on.
Though I wish I could stay…I can’t
A couple of months ago, my good friend Shannon asked me if I would be interested in designing the brand to her new photography company called Fromage Photography. I was honoured she considered me to do the design, and of course I was more than happy to do it, I mean, cheese and photography… who could say no to that?!?
Fromage Photography is located in the Philadelphia area and focuses on animal, engagement and wedding photography. Shannon wanted something to reflect her bubbly and over-the-top hilarious personality (I mean she called her company Fromage Photography… how awesome is that) and that is what I came up with.
Since Shannon is all about the cheese (just read her bio) loves photography and her pets… a “cheesy heart” seemed to be the perfect combination for her logo. She absolutely loved it and I was pleased. Whoot Whoot!
I really hope you will enjoy your new stationery/logo/site and wish you all the best Shannon in the photography biz! If you want to connect with Fromage Photography you may do so via:
As the poster designed by Lunch Breath clearly states : FUN FACT : As a graphic designer, fully 92% of your times will be spent on unpaid favors. When I saw this poster, my first reaction was to laugh, well you have to admit its a pretty funny poster with the Killer Jellyfish of Graphic Design Favors … but on the other hand… its a NOT-SO-FUN-FACT… well if you are a designer, like me… you have to admit, its sooooo true.
Now don’t get me wrong, these so called “favors” I did agree to them, and majority of the time I like designing these “favors” but lets be honest. As a business person, it’s a waste of time and money. But for some reason I find myself to be in the same pattern, even after 7 years of design experience. I tend to be too nice when it comes to offering my design services, and for some reason FAVORS seem to be attracted to me.
Reading the poster I am beyond guilty… hence my 92% should be more like 95% (so here is my list… of related favors)
Designing a t-shirt : been there done that (not a cute person though)
Last minute powerpoint : More like last minute presentation (PDF)
Email blast : More like responding to way too many web/design questions that don’t even have to do with the “favor” in question
Illustrations for unpublished childrens book : More like for a work manual
Website for sister-in-law : More like a friend
Gig Poster : More like Poster and Ticket for an event
Logo : I think I did at least 10 favors in this category
Baby Announcement : More like baby shower invite
Jersey Graphic : (wow, one that doesn’t apply… whoo hooo)
But I did do these favors (not on the list above)
Business cards designs
Letterhead + Envelope Design
Blog design
Wedding Invitation
Car lettering
CD Cover and Insert
I am sure there is more… but I’ll leave it at that. So today, I vow to limit my favors to 1 or 2 a year. I mean, I can’t completely say no to say my sister who is starting up a business and needs a logo and stationery… or to a good friend who’s getting married and would like to have a kick ass invitation. But… if you happen to be the 3rd person to ask. It’s a no-no. I have to admit though, that these favors tend to be people I am close with. Family, Friends, or friends of friends… but ONE day… I WILL CHARGE FOR EVERY DESIGN THING I DO. (note that I wrote ONE day )
So business peeps out there, even if you aren’t a designer, I am sure you can clearly identify with these “so-called Favors” how did you kick the bad habit. I’m still trying to find a way.
