Maybe its the combination of old and new, knowing that something has a story behind it, a previous life makes it even more interesting. I love the textures and colors of vintage items and well clearly when I saw this nursery… I died a little. Still unsure what I will be doing for bébé girl’s nursery this definitely sparks some inspiration.

Before I got pregnant, I purchased this pair of Joyfolie shoes. Yes, I wasn’t pregnant, nor do I have a girl but they were beyond adorable, 1 of a kind and I was able to snag them. I told myself if I got pregnant the second time around and had a girl it would be perfect, and well… if I had a boy, I have a niece who would look amazing in these.

When I got them, they were even prettier in person and I started dreaming of decorating a baby girl nursery using those shoes as an inspiration. Beige, Browns, Reds and Mint… all vintage style. I would purchase a red vintage gumball machine, I actually found the fabric online and would plan the bedding accordingly (clearly not all in that fabric, but maybe some throw pillows etc.) I was even thinking of framing the shoes (until baby girl could wear them) as a art piece for the room. The only thing I couldn’t quite figure out is my glider. I have a beautiful gray houndstooth glider which clearly would clash with my vision. Being the girly girl I am and wanting everything to match it really bothered me even more so now that I am having a girl. So I decided to switch my plans.

Inspiration #2 for my new nursery. These beautiful mint shoes, again from Joyfolie. I love the idea of mint in a baby’s girl room and these shoes really are beautiful. The fabric, the embellishment all so very dainty and I see would fit perfectly with my vision of what baby girl would look like.

Clearly mint is a reoccurring color and one I love for a girls nursery combined that with grays, blush pinks, corals, and steel blue. Yes its very uncommon for a nursery but the combo is beyond pretty. Just look at this BEAUTIFUL collage… it’s exactly what I envision for my nursery palette.

I’ve repeated it over and over that I’m not a baby theme lover. Theme as in classic baby themes : butterflies, animals, Disney Characters etc. So creating something unique, not too theme-ish will be quite the challenge, but I love when 1 thing sparks a waterfall of ideas. (I’m still waiting for that to happen) but I’m sure it will … soon.

Have you ever designed a room (nursery or other) using inspiration in an unexpected place?

[ 1 | 2 | 3 ]

When we had our first ultrasound at the 12 week mark, I was extremely nervous about having twins. The thought of it made me sick to my stomach but luckily the doctor confirmed there was only 1 in there. Yay!!! Check that off my baby list. Then she clearly told us bebe was healthy and a gymnast already. Check that off my list. (the healthy part) and lastly she asked us if we wanted to know the sex. Yes…at our 12 week appointment but like she said, it was a prediction and clearly come the 20 week ultrasound it could change. Well her prediciton was right….

we are having a GIRL!!!

I am BEYOND EXCITED. A little girl. Mavrick a big brother to a little sister. OhI can just forsee the future. One of each. Like I’ve always dreamt… I can officialy say my family is complete! I wish I could of included some pictures of our 20 week ultrasound but unfortunately baby girl did not want to cooperate. She had her knees in her face, and when they weren’t in her face, she was stuck to my placenta. It will make it that much more exciting to see her when she decides to show her face (hopefully sooner than later)

Now the fun part starts, thinking nursery, girl names and buying girl clothes and shoes. I can’t wait to share all the details with you!

So remember how I blogged about the most adorable baby girl shoes (and how I even own some but I don’t even have a girl) Well, Joyfolie is still one of my favorite places to buy unique girl shoes (I give them as gifts) they are beautiful and in September she launched the manufactured line to be able to keep up with demand! (Here are just a few styles)

She has been working extra long hours to offer the lines to the mass public (and well to get her name out there) So a couple of weeks ago…. her manufactured lines (well 3 pairs) can be found at Anthropologie (for Kids). Plus in the next week or so, they will be available at Gap and Piperlime. (Quick savers tip, the shoes/boots available on these sites are actually cheaper if purchased from the Joyfolie site itself)

Seeing I don’t have a girl, I’m definitely looking forward to the launch of her woman shoes. Here is a sneek peek.

Check out the Joyfolie site for more styles available. If ever you touch base with her, be sure to tell her that Kelly sent you !

I’ve been thinking & planning his birthday I would say at the 6 month mark. (Yes, I’m a little nuts when it comes to planning stuff) But I wanted it to be a memorable one. What can I say, that’s the designer in me. Ever since he’s been a baby, I always said Mavrick looks like one of those vintage babies… so the idea to have a vintage newspaper boy themed birthday party seemed to be the perfect match.

I asked my father to hand over months of newspapers (once he was done reading them, of course) and I used them throughout the event. I designed a vintage style newspaper invitation that I sent to family and friends just to give them a feel of what was to come. (ha, the surprise that was awaiting them)

For the decorations I purchased Accordian Blue Paper Lanterns, crepe paper streamers and I DIY newspaper streamers to create the backdrop for the table. I also found on etsy some newsprint fabric that I used as table runners. I had some left over white 17″ balloons that I hung from our maple tree and purchased 36″ balloons and tied them around our pool. I used newsprint to DIY a “Mavrick” Banner I tied in the front of the table.

To go with the color theme of gray, white, black and blue, I opted to make a blue punch (which was really good, refreshing and easy to make (see bottom of post for recipe) I reused some baby food containers to serve as glasses. I purchased some striped paper straws from Rock Paper Scissors (for a really good price) and wrapped the glasses with some newsprint fabric

Seeing the theme was vintage related, I wanted the menu to reflect food from that time as well. I mean why not go all that way? So I decided to make mini burgers, mini hot dogs, fries with vintage containers, mac & cheese, grill cheese and smoke meat. All homemade. I decided to put the crudités in vases to make it more interesting, and I made salad on a stick (tomato, cucumber, cheese and fresh basil)

As for the desserts I made, I also wanted to make some sweets they had back in the days so mini chocolate chip cookies, rice krispies squares, chocolate dipped marshmallows were a must and I made cake balls, cupcakes, cake and mini fruit skewers. I even had bazooka gum, blue rock candy swizzle sticks and homemade popsicles.

For the cake, I decided to make it two-toned to mimic the colors of the newspaper. You don’t see it that clearly but there were a beige and two grayish layers. I decided to make dots all over the cake just for the fun of it. I DIYed a streamer cake topper with ribbon and fabric to really tie in the background decor and the cake.

What would be a birthday boy without a birthday hat? I DIYed a newspaper hat with a big fat “1″ on it. He didn’t really love wearing it, but the cake distracted him so we were able to capture a few shots. Seeing I wanted Mavrick to really indulge in his birthday cake, I made a mini vanilla cake him with a little less sugar. Let me tell you he loved it, and of course there was cake all over the place.

The party was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the food and all the little details of the event. I want to say a huge thank you to my family and friends (you know who you are) for helping me out to make Mavi’s birthday a success. A shout out to my talented photographer Christina for capturing all these great memories. I have to admit, I’m looking forward to next year :]

This week’s Sarah 101 episode is all about little girls. It’s about making 2 rooms work for 3 little girls. Originally they had 2 bunk beds (a classic I think) but after Tommy and Sarah go their magic, this room is a little girls dream. Heck even I want a room like that. :]

Episode 6 : Boho Chic Girls’ Room

Two rooms for three little girls become fun, personality-packed retreats. Tea towels capture Sarah and Tommy’s eye, leading us to greens and blues in one room, where Sarah’s platform bed solution banishes bunk beds forever. Meanwhile the nursery pops in cheery reds and corals. Everything sits on new, low gas carpeting in a neutral stripe that ties into flooring in the rest of the home. Both rooms receive a ton of storage and ideas for accessories and the girly fun stuff!

To-do List:

Fabric, flooring & Paint

Furniture & Artwork

Lighting

Window Coverings

Storage

Bling

I love that they used inspiration from tea towels (which they transformed into pillow cases and a hamper) I think these colors don’t scream little girl… but I think they are so pretty together. I love both these rooms. Don’t you?

Today, you turn 5… seriously mommy says you need to stop growing up so fast. Even though I take lots of pictures and I write down whenever you do something new… I can’t seem to keep up. Soon you will be going to school and just the thought of that is making me panic. (just a little)

Like the previous months, lots has happened since the your last monthiversary. As you know you started eating food already and you are a pro. You eat everything, you love water (even if you love gargling it) and bananas are your favorite. Mommy attempted to make you food : peas and squash… and it was surprisingly easier to make then I thought. Even grandma made you some food : carrots.

You only drink formula now and officially drank your first 8oz bottle (in 1 shot) 2 weeks ago. Actually now, apart from the food, you drink at least 30 oz of formula. So today, I am starting to give you some cereal and fruits for breakfast.

You move alot. Even if you don’t roll over by yourself, you have your own way to travel. You lift up your legs, put them on the side and turn your body until you are straight. You can actually do a 360 by doing just that. Even while you sleep you move. I place you in the middle of your crib and by the time you are waking up, you are in the corner of the crib.

You are drooling even more now (didn’t think that was possible) but still no sign of baby teeth. You put everything in your mouth. Everything. So I have to watch out. You are a master of grabbing. You’ve been able to put your pacifier and your toys in your mouth by yourself. Let me tell you, Sophie is getting used to being wet. You are actually really really strong. You pull anything you can get your hands on. From hair to the toys on your playmat. You actually get frustrated when you can’t get what you want. Whatever it may be.

This month we went photo crazy. We actually had 2 photoshoots. We figured it might be a great gift to give your grandparents and aunts. We had one taken of you with your everyday clothes and another that is Christmas themed (no pics of this to show just yet) You know how it works. You smile when you see the camera. Then because of the holiday’s we went to see Santa. Your first encounter with old St-Nick. We waited in line for about 2 hours to get a ticket to see him a few hours later. The first thing you went for was his beard of course, but to your surprise it was the real deal. Here is a sneek peek of one picture with Santa. (I’ll be doing a whole post on it shortly)

Happy 5 months, mommy loves you xox
