Ever since the last time I blogged about our nursery color possibilities, nothing much has happened (apart from purchasing 2 shelves and some storage boxes from Ikea) My search to find unique, not too babyish bedding that would fit my vision, was still on. I mean, lets admit it… until your child is big enough to want a big boy/girl room, you are ALL CLEAR with the decor decisions (well you might have to convince daddy – but that’s do-able)

When I saw Holly’s (aka Bijou Lovely or Mrs.Mascara) handmade circle quilt I fell in love. This is what I needed… something cute, colorful with or without patterns AND no animals in sight!!! Well… guess what?! Holly is making me custom baby bedding. Yes yes, you read right. CUSTOM. Eeeeeee I am beyond excited you have no freakin idea. Baby will have the coolest bedding ever thanks to the oh-so talented Holly.

Now deciding what I wanted. Oh gee. At first I wanted to have a classic quilt with blocks of fabric, but even though I find them so pretty… it wasn’t me. I’m more of a modern kind of gal so Holly and I talked about maybe doing a stripped quilt using solid or slighted patterned fabrics and going with patterned fabrics for other elements. GENIUS!!!! She asked me what I wanted as colors and this is what I sent her.

Since this is custom bedding, I want to be able to use if for baby #2. So having something colorful and incorporating almost every color possible would make it gender neutral. Looking at these colors make me soooo happy. They are cheerful bright and will fit perfectly with my neutral colored room & furniture. Now lets hope Holly’s fabric search will be easy ;)

I will be getting a quilt, bumper, skirt and some pillows made… and even though I am waiting for Holly to get back to me with fabrics in the above colors… I still can’t stop looking for cute patterns which could tie the whole look together. It’s going to be amazing seeing everything come together. As for a theme? you’d think I’d say no, with all the colors going on… but you are wrong ;) This “theme” is perfect for all the colors. What is it? Pinwheels.

I will be decorating the room with DIY colored pinwheels making the bright colors will pop on the gray wall. Sure I’ve seen pinwheels for showers, gender reveal parties but never as an actual theme or decor element in a baby’s room. Hopefully I will pull it off and make it look fab!!!

More to come…

  1. I like your pinwheel idea. I have to admit that I haven’t seen it applied to a baby nursery although for all its inherent cheerfulness, it seems like a clear oversight. Maybe you should create your own line of bedding?

I saw the same Kate Spade ad and was inspired for my baby too! I wish I’d have thought of our nursery though! I made my little girl an adorable pinwheel onesie with ruffles on the butt. I wish their was a way to share it… I think it’d inspire you for pillows and appliques throughout your nursery!
